One of my biggest struggles today is how divided this nation is. We are to be One Nation Under God! Nation meaning a multitude of individuals of the same nature. That’s us, the entire human race. God intended us to be as one. Unity is key. One mind in one accord, working together for good. Let’s stop being divided, we are stronger when we stand united.
Strongs Lexicon G1484
- Definition of Nation in the Greek
- a multitude (whether of men or of beasts) associated or living together
- a company, troop, swarm
- a multitude of individuals of the same nature or genus
- the human family
- a tribe, nation, people group
- in the OT, foreign nations not worshipping the true God, pagans, Gentiles
- Paul uses the term for Gentile Christians
Jesus warned us of what it would look like before his return. One of the indicators being nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom (or for us Country against Country).
Divided we fall, but united we can stand strong!
3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what [will be] the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” 4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 “For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all [these things] must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 “All these [are] the beginning of sorrows.

Sure many want Jesus to hurry up and return, but the harvest is still plentiful. Our Father in heaven is not willing to loose any.
8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day [is] as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning [His] promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
2 Peter 3:8-9 (NKJV)
Scripture proves the importance unity. Below is a collection of some of them:
1 Behold, how good and how pleasant [it is] For brethren to dwell together in unity!
Psalm 133:1 NKJV
20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 “that they all may be one, as You, Father, [are] in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 “And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 “I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
John 17:20-23 NKJV
4 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, [being] many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. … 16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.
Romans 12:4-5, 16 NKJV
1 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all.
Eph 4:1-6 NKJV
27 Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,
Philippians 1:27 NKJV
2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, [being] of one accord, of one mind.
Philippians 2:2 NKJV
10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and [that] there be no divisions among you, but [that] you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
1 Corinthians 1:10 NKJV
11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.
2 Corinthians 13:11 NKJV
14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
Colossians 3:14 NKJV
8 Finally, all [of you be] of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, [be] tenderhearted, [be] courteous;
1 Peter 3:8 NKJV
If we could just learn how to turn the other cheek, or bite our tongue instead of lashing out, or even just walk away to avoid coming against one another, we could begin to be united. It’s just not worth it. The devil is jumping for joy when we are divided. It opens the door wide for him to step in and do his work on our minds. Take these scriptures to heart, remember them, meditate on them. All we really have to do is pause in the midst of disagreement.
