One of the very first recorded words Jesus spoke to the people was “Repent, the kingdom of heaven is at hand“. Why do you think this was? Back then and even today, we have proven to be a stiff-necked people that refuses to obey the commandments of God. We are a people full of iniquity. We revere sin and shun the truth. If we had to live under the law as it was before Jesus fulfilled it, we would fail. The Bible indicates that our best efforts are as filthy rags. It’s the reason we need Jesus.
We were so full of wickedness, sin and rebellion that God regretted ever creating us. He was so grieved in His heart that he had to destroy us, save Noah and his family. In addition to Noah and his family, God saved a pair of each living creature so they could replenish the earth later.
God did promise to never destroyed the earth like that again, meaning not with water. The next time we grieve God to the point of regretting He created us, He will destroy us with fire. (2 Peter 3) But when do we reach that point? When do you think God will be so disgusted with us that he regrets creating us? When will He have had enough and take us out again, forever? Well the answer to that is when He sees that our iniquity is full. When we have committed every sin imaginable and unimaginable. So they real answer is only God Himself knows.
Revival is breaking out all over the world, people are worshiping and praising God, But here’s the thing, without repentance the revival will not endure. Repentance must come from out hearts. We must change our minds and change our ways. We must walk in the spirit and not in the lust of our flesh.
I’ve heard over and over again “people have been saying Jesus is coming back for the last 2000 years”. What we need to remember is that “with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day”. In today’s world we are breaking every thing God stands for, we have broken every commandment, and we are glorifying our sin and spitting in the face of God. God doesn’t want this for us. He is longsuffering and wants us all to repent, but even God has a breaking point.
8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day [is] as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning [His] promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
[2Pe 3:8-9 NKJV]
Repent, the kingdom of heaven is at hand!
