The Work Of The Holy Ghost

My Pastor released a powerful word in yesterday’s sermon. It has inspired this post. Who is the Holy Ghost and what is the work of the Holy Ghost?

Let’s answer that first question. Who is the Holy Ghost? But maybe I should first explain that God is triune. So what is triune? Triune is being three in one. We are God’s creation, and God made us in the image of Himself, thus we too are triune. God is the Godhead of the Holy Trinity. That said, He is the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost (some may say Holy Spirit). We are Body, Soul, Spirit.

With this in mind, the Holy Ghost is the third person of God Himself. And the Spirit of God, the Holy Ghost, lives inside of us. Again we are Body, Soul, Spirit. God created us in His own image, thus His Spirit (Holy Ghost) lives inside us.

Jesus told his disciples that it was to their advantage that He goes away, because if He didn’t go away, then the Helper would not come. But that if He did go away, He would send the Helper (the KJV uses the word “comforter”) to them. That is who the Holy Ghost is. He is the Spirit of God, He is our Helper. Without Him we aren’t able to stand righteous before God.

The Comforter (The Helper)

The Greek word for comforter is parakletos which is defined as an intercessor, a counselor or an advocate.

Every single one of us needs the Comforter to fight for us, to protect us, to prosper us, and to bring us joy and peace. He gives us wisdom and knowledge. All we have to do is listen to that still small voice and follow it’s lead.

Holy Ghost Assignments

  • Righteousness
    • He pushes us to righteousness
      • He has to push us because He has gone to the Father. We need him to continue to counsel us, to lead us and to convict us.
      • He pushes us to righteousness because sin can not enter into the Kingdom of God.
  • Convicts the world of sin
    • God convicts those He loves. If we aren’t convicted of our sin, we will in fact go to hell. If we are not convicted, how can we be reconciled with God. He convicts us so we can correct our mistakes or wrongdoing so the sanctification process can continue.
  • Judgement
    • The ruler of this world has been judged.
      • Judgement so He can draw all people to Himself.
